Original Kumihimo Jewelry

Kumihimo is the traditional Japanese technique of braiding eight threads into strong and attractive cordage. The craft has been practiced for centuries - by by samurai to secure their armor, by monks as an aid to meditation, and by the aristocracy for personal adornment.
Traditional Kumihimo is braided using cordage only, on a tabletop loom called a marudai. The technique was adapted by western artists for braiding fine glass beads into beautiful chains for jewelry, belts and accessories.
Each Kumihimo from The Handworks is an original design. The braided construction is extremely strong and all items are guaranteed against breakage. Each can be made to order with your choice of color, length and decoration. If you don't see exactly what you like, please inquire.
